France Surrenders To the Résistance of the People. So should the rest of the world.

Unfortunately due to a server failure in April 2008, posts made prior will not have any of the referenced images... my wordpress content folder was wiped out. Sorry if that causes any confusion when reading. -ac

In case you missed it, I feel it important to pass on: France has surrendered the Olympic torch relay through Paris because of growing protests according to the New York Times . And there are now people climbing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to protest the relay coming through the city on Wednesday. I think it is amazing to see worldwide action on this. This was supposed to be a time for China to show off, but now it is engaged in an all-out PR war with the rest of the world.

A couple weeks ago, I came across this logo created as a protest logo for the suppression of Tibet and posted it on my Tumblr . But I think the precipitating events lead its importance to the day so I am reposting it here.

This is the original message from the co-artist :

I f you feel as I do, art can be a powerful tool for raising social awareness. My friend Rebecca and myself collaborated to make this graphic to be used to remind people of the struggle in Tibet. Please distribute it freely, and hopefully we will see many other like it as we approach the dishonorable 2008 Olympics.

Events in the course of human history require the unabashed support of a global community. Oppression in Tibet , genocide in Darfur , the Dalits in India and even the homeless here in the US . All things with global implications, undeniable moral positions and a voiceless caste subjected to tyrannical, murderous and unforgiving oppression. What are you doing right now? Spread the word.

  1. Save Darfur Coalition – Extinguish the flames of genocide:

On April 9, the Olympic flame will make its only North American stop in San Francisco, and Darfur activists from around the country will be gathering to greet the torch. We need to tell China, host of the 2008 Olympic Games, that it must use its leverage with Sudan to help end the genocide.

Add your voice to the San Francisco rally by joining our online photo petition, right here on Facebook.

Here’s how to join the Facebook rally for Darfur:

    1. Download our sign at http://www.savedarfur.org/april9sign or make your own sign saying, “I demand that China extinguish the flames of genocide in Darfur.”
    2. Take a picture of yourself holding the sign, and upload it as your new Facebook profile picture on April 9.
